Renovation of Jikwoyi Primary Health Center, Abuja

In October 2020, Wise Women With Initiative successfully carried out a comprehensive renovation of the Jikwoyi Primary Health Care Centre in Abuja as part of our commitment to improving access to quality healthcare services for underserved communities.

The health facility, which serves women, children, and families within the community, was in a severely deteriorated state. Several sections of the centre had suffered years of wear and neglect, creating an environment that was unsafe and unsuitable for effective healthcare delivery.

The Challenge

Prior to our intervention, the facility faced numerous infrastructural challenges, including:

– Damaged and leaking ceilings
– Cracked and deteriorating walls
– Worn-out waiting areas and furniture
– Poorly maintained sanitation facilities
– Damaged windows and fittings
– Exposed wiring and structural defects
– An overall environment that was no longer conducive to quality patient care

These conditions affected both healthcare workers and the community members who depended on the facility for essential medical services.

Our Intervention

Wise Women With Initiative mobilized resources, volunteers, and technical support to undertake a full-scale renovation of the facility.

The project included:

– Structural repairs and rehabilitation
– Replacement and installation of windows
– Ceiling reconstruction and repairs
– Roofing and fascia improvements
– Interior and exterior painting
– Refurbishment of waiting areas
– Renovation of toilet facilities
– General environmental improvement and beautification

A total investment of ₦3,000,000 was committed to the project, supported by 18 volunteers who contributed their time and effort toward restoring the facility.

Project Leadership

Special recognition is given to Mr. Evans Ono, whose dedication and hands-on supervision ensured the successful execution of the renovation project from planning through completion. His commitment played a significant role in delivering a transformed facility for the community.

Impact

The renovation transformed the Jikwoyi Primary Health Care Centre into a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment for healthcare delivery.

Today, patients, pregnant women, nursing mothers, children, and healthcare professionals benefit from improved infrastructure that supports quality medical services and promotes dignity in healthcare access.

This project reflects the mission of Wise Women With Initiative to strengthen community development through practical, sustainable, and impactful interventions that improve lives.

“Healthy communities begin with safe and functional healthcare facilities.”
